I am still playing with the January Spellbinders Small Die of the Month club. This time I cut all the pieces out of Strathmore Paint Pad paper and colored them with my Prismacolor colored pencils. That way I could add some dimension. I colored the face with some shading under the hairline. I used the shirt die for the lady's top and the dress die to create a maxi-skirt into which I colored some pleats.
The background on this card is an experiment. I have seen many beautiful alcohol ink backgrounds with foiling added to them while a bit of the ink was still wet. I tried to see if I could recreate that effect with watercolors and glue.
I created the cardbase out of Canson XL Watercolor paper and taped it down to my glass mat so that I would have a white frame. I splashed on my colors, some shades of yellow and green. As the paint was drying, I took note of the spots that took longer to dry and that would have grabbed onto the foil if this were alcohol ink. Once completely dry, I added Zig 2-way glue to those spots and once it was dry, I added the foil to the glue spots and a piece of tape I had added at the bottom. I then stamped the sentiment into a lighter spot on the card with Versafine Onyx black ink and glued the lady down to the front of my card.
I think the experiment was successful for a first try. I will try it again and be a little less heavy-handed on the glue spots on the background.
