Blank Dies

Happy Friday to all my blogland friends. I hope you are keeping well. Today I have a fun project to share with you, another challenge between my friend BożenA and I. This time she named the challenge theme and she chose the use of "blanking dies". So the purpose is to use die cuts cut out of white cardstock and then adding color with any medium of our choice.

It took me a bit until I settled on a design idea. I had a few dies that would work with this, but opted to go with this intricate butterfly. The die actually cuts the part that you see in gold here, so I pressed it into a piece of watercolor paper to give me the shape of the butterfly and then colored the shape that I could see clearly in the paper, but that was not cut through. I used two Memento inks to lay down the base color, blending them together. I then sprayed it with a fine mist of water and once dry, I returned the die into the pressed shape and then inked some of the openings with Distress Oxide ink. I then fussy cut the butterfly along the line that the outer edge of the die had pressed into the watercolor paper. Once I had it cut out, I added some Bridal Tinsel embossing powder to it which muted the colors a bit, but gave it the most beautiful sparkle. It even shows some in this photo.

I cut the butterfly out again out of white cardstock which I colored completely with gold embossing powder. I added three layers of embossing so that it produced a beautifully smooth finish.

The leaves along the edge of the card are also cut out of white cardstock and I colored some with the same gold embossing powder, I colored some with copper embossing powder and some just got the Bridal Tinsel embossing powder. I made a card panel by running a piece of white cardstock through a Spellbinders embossing folder and adhered that to my cardbase. I then arranged the leaves up the right side and along the bottom of the card.

I completed the card by adding a sentiment cut out of black cardstock and adhered my butterfly to the top of the card. I glued the gold part of the butterfly to the colored part along the body only, so the wings raise off the card a bit for some dimension. I coated the sentiment in Wink of Stella, however that is not visible in the photos.
