The School Bus

I am back with another DT Inspiration project for World Wide Open Design Team Challenge blog. Julia Spiri is our resident sponsor and today I am showing you the most brilliant school bus you have ever seen. The digi is called Whimsy School Bus

This project has no coloring on it! Yes, you read that correctly. I decided that I would paper piece the school bus. I opted to go with the traditional yellow, but use different patterns. I also decided that this was a perfect image for a shaped card. So I went to work in my Silhouette Studio software. I sized the image so that it would make a smaller card - 4.25x3 inches. I traced the shape of the bus to cut out the complete outline and moved just the shape onto another mat and cut out two of them. These two formed my cardbase. I scored an 1/8 inch line down the left side of the one to create a hinge so that the card could open. I then printed the image out on a mottled pink patterned paper that I used for the bottom layer. Then I also printed it out onto the plaid paper, the dotted paper and the plain yellow paper. I traced the various parts of the bus for each of the printouts that I wanted in my final rendition to create cutlines.

I glued the parts together and then onto the one side of the cardbase. I cut the wheels out of black cardstock and then used the light and mirror dies from the Spellbinders Truckin through the Seasons die set with silver cardstock to add some dimension to the wheels and the mirror. I added some detail with silver glitter gel pen, a red gel pen and a black glitter gel pen. I stamped the sentiment using a stamp from the Concord & 9th Perfectly Penned stampset and Versafine Onyx Black ink. I completed the card by adhering the back part of the cardbase to the front of the cardbase at the hinge.

I will definitely be playing with the digi again and using my pencils next time. But today these papers spoke to me. We look forward to seeing your projects in our challenge at the World Wide Open Design Team Challenge blog. You must be a member of a design team anywhere in the world to enter, but the theme is Anything Goes.
