The Roses

I recently received a surprise email from Megan at the Happy Craft Challenge. She let me know that I had been chosen by a design team member to Guest Design for September. The optional theme is Spring and so I decided that there was no better theme for a Spring card than to use flowers.

I had won some digis from Imagine that Digistamps and one was the Rose Blessing digi set. I had often admired cards that people had made where they had stamped lineart stamps onto cardstock to create a background. I decided to try and do that digitally. So using the lineart, I changed the black to purple and laid out the background in Silhouette Studio. Since I could create a rectangle in the software, I could get a visual on my screen of what the scattered roses would look like. I then printed them out onto light pink cardstock and cut the rectangle out with the machine.

On a separate page, I printed out one rose with the original black lines and sized slightly bigger than the background ones onto Daler-Rowney Drawing paper. I colored the rose with my Prismacolor colored pencils and then returned it to the Silhouette to cut the single flower out. I completed the cutout by running a black marker along the cut edge.

I decided to add the focal image to the top left corner of the card as I did not want the background covered up. I die cut a hello sentiment out of purple cardstock. I cut it out twice and glued the two together to create a bit of dimension and then glued the sentment to the bottom right corner of the card. The sentiment sparkles beautifully in real life as I covered it in Wink of Stella. Unfortunately, that does not show in the photos too well.

Thank you Megan and the team at the Happy Craft Challenge for having me as a Guest Designer this month.
