Penguin at Christmas

Yes, this is a Christmas card! And that is because the theme over at the new Cute 'N Crafty challenge is Christmas in July. Our sponsor is My Besties and I got to work with this cutie called Bestie Pengiun. The prize for the winner is 3 digis from the shop.

I created the card design in Silhouette Studio. The cardpanel is all one layer. I created a 4x5.5 rectangle and filled it with a digital paper from the Kelly's Christmas Digital Paper collection by KHDigi. I lowered the opacity of the rectangle to soften the colors of the paper some. I added the digi to the rectangle and sized it accordingly. Then I created an oval behind the penguin and sized it so that the pom-poms and the end of the scarf were outside of it. I created a 0.5 inch offset from the first oval. Using the eyedropper tool, I filled the two with color from the digital paper and then printed the panel out onto Daler-Rowney Drawing paper.

I colored the penguin with my Prismacolor colored pencils. Once completed, I returned the page to my Silhouette to cut the rectangle out, making sure all other cutlines were turned off. Yes, I could cut a rectangle with my paper trimmer, but I find I get a more accurate cut with my Silhouette since I did create it there and the paper is a filled shape.

Using the Spellbinders Small Die of the Month club kit from November 2018, I cut the words Merry and Christmas from green cardstock. Then I embossed the words with clear embossing powder, putting 3 layers of embossing on it. That way my sentiment looks like epoxy letters. I glued the panel to a green cardbase and adhered the sentiment in place.

Cute 'N Crafty challenges are now monthly and so you have more time to enter your Christmas themed projects this time. We look forward to seeing your makes.
