My flower book

I recently invested in a Dylusions Creative Journal as I wanted to start a flower book. I was inspired by Vicki's "A Year in Flowers". My first double spread needed to be dedicated to the Rose - one of my favorite flowers.

I prepped the background on the spread with Distress Oxide inks. I put the inks onto a piece of acetate and then sprayed it with water and then smooshed it onto the page. I did this a few times and then did some blending with my blending brushes. I also blended some vintage photo along the edges of the pages. Once the ink was dry, I added some stenciling and some text stamping in random places on the page spread.

To create my flowers, I used the two Craft-a-Flower rose die sets from Altenew -  the rose and the antique rose sets. I created three flowers to place into three of the corners. After cutting the flowers and the leaves, I inked the pieces and assembled them. I also cut the letters to spell the word Rose with my Quickutz alphabet font dies.

I placed the roses in the corners and added the word. I printed out the symbolism of the rose and added it to the page.

The reason I used the shades of yellow and orange for my first flower in the book is  because there is a Tea Hybrid rose called a Monica Rose. Looks like this:

I will share my flowers with you as I continue in my journal.

  4. What a lovely idea to pay homage to flowers in this way. So in total there will be 63 flowers or 32 if you use double spreads for most of them? I only know that there are usually so many pages in the Dylusion journals because I use them a lot. Love the paper, in such s good quality. I also like the Altenew stamps although ~I have not seen the rose one - it is beautiful and `I love the way you have used it. A delightful page.

  12. Hi Monica, well this is right up my alley! lol I have one eclectic aj and a gazillion themed ones, lol. LOVE your first spread and I'd love it if you did one a week! I don't have near the variety of flower stamps or dies so I'd have to just do a generic flower journal. Hey, I have a vintage style practice journal. I should do some flowers. Love your blended background. Oxides are so fun. Glad to see Altenew's flowers getting bigger, too. At first they were all tiny, lol. XOX

  13. I'm a bit late visiting, but I was quite impressed with your Monica rose spread. That's a lovely hybrid tea rose and since it matched your name, it is the perfect one to start your book of flowers. Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey honoring Eileen's theme.
