Where have you been??

That is what some of you may have been wondering. I have missed visiting your blogs on a regular basis. Maybe some pictures will make up for my absence.

We pulled out of our spot in Florida early on Sunday morning, November 10. We had planned to go as far as Chattahoochee, FL that night.

We are pretty long while in tow, approximately 55 feet (just short of 17 meters). We did make it to Chattahoochee, FL where we discovered a lovely little restaurant called Northside Seafood. If you ever pass through there, give their potato salad a try!!

The next day we made it further than expected and got as far as Duson, LA. During this leg of the journey, we crossed the mighty Mississippi! That is always something special for me. The Mississippi is known around the world and I always love seeing it - despite that it is largely industrial in this area.

That was the night the Arctic Blast hit the middle of the US. It was about 70 degrees F (21C) when we got there. The wind came up at about midnight and by the next morning it was 28 degrees F (-2C) Ouch!

On the next day, our planned stop was to be San Antonio, but again making good time, we decided to push through the city so that we did not need to navigate it the next morning. We found a spot that worked for us in Boerne, TX. I don't have a pic from here - waaay to chilly for this girl.


The roads in Texas were definitely not in the best shape and I wondered how my plates and glasses would fare as I had not padded them prior to pulling out. But although they had moved in the cabinets, nothing was broken. But the wide open countryside was such a balm for the soul! I love the wide, open spaces of the west.

Our next stop was in Van Horn, TX. We are very familiar with Van Horn, as it has been a stop for us previously while driving along I-10. The temps where still cold and I had to rub the ice off the windshields the next morning. But, we had decided that we could make it all the way to Tucson that day and that was exciting - so we were up just before the sun. Obviously the constant time changes also helped with early morning get ups in the cold.

Finally we saw the welcome sign we had been waiting for!

We headed along the last leg of our journey. We found our spot and finally the truck could get unhitched and we could put our legs down for a while. We will be here for an extended stay.

So now that I am settled and the immediate organizational arrangements are made, I will be back to visiting your blogs and entering challenges.
