Cancer Zodiac

Time for a new chibi release over at Scrappers Delights and as always, there is a VIP deal with the Zodiac sign. This time the sign is Cancer and the image is a mermaid with a treasure chest and some crabs.

I again designed this card in Silhouette Studio. I wanted to try a new technique here in that I added the background image to my 5x5 square and then added the .png version of the digi over it so that the color from the background image showed through the mermaid digi. I added the sentiment and also the word Cancer. The word Cancer digi is also a .png, but has the center set to white and so it covered the background image. I wanted to see how my pencils would react when coloring over computer ink. I printed the design out onto Daler-Rowney drawing paper.

I colored the mermaid, the treasure chest, the crabs and the word Cancer with my Prismacolor colored pencils. There was a little muting of color where the background ink was darker, noticeably over the darker blue shade of the sea before it merged into the seabed. You can see the difference between the crabs and the word Cancer - both are done with the same orange combo. I colored the mirror and the coins in the chest with a gold gel pen and that was interesting. The coins that are printed over the dark blue background have a greenish tinge to them as the gold gel pen reacted with the blue printer ink. I did not mind the result as we are dealing with a mythical sea creature and her treasure chest here. I colored the anchor and the handle and latch on the chest with silver gel pen.

I completed the coloring by using a purple sparkle gel pen on her bead strings and a white gel pen on the bubbles in the water. Once the coloring was done, I cut the square out and adhered it to an orange cardpanel and that in turn to a 5.5x5.5 cardbase.

Head over to see the new release at Scrappers Delights and if you get all three new chibi images, you will get this sweet Cancer zodiac bundle for free.
