A Bookmark

Today I am back with another project created for the ongoing challenge that BożenA and I do together. It was her turn to call the topic and she chose "Create a Bookmark". There were no requirements of any kind as to method, technique or anything else, just create a bookmark. I don't read much anymore and when I do, I read on my Kindle, so I decided to create a bookmark for my journaling Bible and use it to highlight a verse that spoke to me recently.

My initial thought on the text was to print it out on my new laser printer and then foil it. So I printed it with a bolder font onto Strathmore Toned Tan paper as I wanted to add an image too that I was going to color with my pencils. I love pencils on kraft colored paper. Well I duly printed it and ran it through the laminator and when the big reveal came - NOTHING!! Oh boy, not a piece of foil had stuck to the text. I am not sure the cause, but I think it may be that the paper has too much texture. So anyway, back to my trusty foiling method of foiling with adhesive. I coated the letters in Zig 2-way glue and left it to dry. I then applied the foil and this time the big reveal came and I had foiled letters, even though they were not as evenly done as I would have got if the toner method had worked.

I then stamped the rose bud from a Kaisercraft stamp set that I had won a long time ago and had yet to use and then colored it with my Prismacolor colored pencils. I did the background shading in soft pastels and then fixed it with spray fixative.

The bookmark was completed by adding the hole at the top which I reinforced with two small circles and then threaded a gold ribbon through.

I am excited to see BożenA's bookmark. Please take a look at what she has made and leave her a comment while you are there.

  1. I knew your card would be wonderful. I also have a problem with gold letters in the laminating machine. I've never been able to do this before. I admire how precisely you applied the glue to the letters. Your sentiment looks beautiful. And the rose picks up a voice. What an amazing coloring !! A wonderful bookmark, I think it will serve you beautifully.
Thank you very much for having another fun together. I love our games and I am looking forward to the next topic. This time it's time for you :-)

  9. Hi Monica! Doncha just love the grand art experiments we enter into? I'm glad the manual foiling "back-up" method just about always works and is actually pretty hard to mess up. I say that with myself in mind, as that's the only way I've foiled so far and I can do it! LOL Anyway, your bookmark ended up beautiful and the foiled words look pretty darn great! Love your coloring, too. Hope y'all aren't melting out there. I know you are used to it. I have a FB friend who keeps posting how many days until Autumn, but I've been enjoying most of our summer says so far. Well, the mornings and evenings, anyway! Hugs, xoxo
