Christmas bowls

I am so excited to show you these projects that I made. These bowls are made with a new Spellbinders die set that cuts the base and the walls with the holes and then one can put them together to create these 3D projects. The dies and paper pack that I used are from the new Fleamarket Finds by Cathe Holden release.

My first bowl is made with the hexagon die set. There are two dies in the set, one for the base and one for the sides. I cut each piece out of heavy black cardstock, cutting a second black piece for the base to add a bit of strength. I then also cut one base from patterned paper and two patterned paper versions for each of the side panels. I was going for a vinatge Christmas theme for this bowl and used the Christmas Velvet paper pack from this same release.

Once I had all the pieces cut out, I glued them together with liquid glue so that I had a bit of wiggle time to line the parts up. It was an easy and therapeutic exercise. I decided to try the blanket stitch method on the hexagon bowl and so with red embroidery thread, I blanket stitched around all the pieces and then sewed them together. Here is a view of the inside of the bowl from the top. It is a good size.

Using the same paper pack and the square bowl die set, I made a small square box in the same color theme. I wanted to try lacing it up with ribbon rather than doing any stitching. I used 1/8 inch satin ribbon and threaded it through the holes to join the pieces together. This is a great "no sew" option to make up these bowls/boxes. I then threaded a ribbon over the top edge to create a finished look.

I love these dies and the versatility of creating containers of varying shapes and sizes. They are great for gifts, but also for home use. I will be making some more in non holiday styles.
